Kick Over the Calf

“And Aaron said to them, ‘Break off the golden earrings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.’ So all the people broke off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron. And he received the gold from their hand, and he fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made a molded calf. Then they said, ‘This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!’” -Exodus 32:2-4

How do you view God?

Once delievered from the oppression of Egypt, it is apparant the Israelites soon forgot who their deliverer was. Moses trekked the mountain and the Israelites built a golden calf and called it a “god.” God brought them out of Egypt, but Egypt was not yet out of them. What they built was an outward portrayal of the picture of God they had in their heart. Somehow through the years of living in a pagan society the Israelites had allowed the views of Egypt to skew their image of Jehovah.

Sadly, the same happens with Christians today. Whether through tradition, bad teaching, or the environment around us, many have accepted a tainted view of God. God does not want you sick, poor, and sorry. God paid for you to live a life of victory through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

“For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.” -Romans 5:17

Get to know God for who He says He is in His Word, not what tradition has taught you. It’s time to kick over the calf, God is better than you think.
